In California, your voter registration record is not available to the general public. However, state laws allow some applicants to access voter registration information that is not available to the public. For details on who has access, visit our page on privacy.
If sharing your voter registration and address could put your life in danger, you may be able to apply for confidential voter registration status through order of the superior court or by applying to the California Secretary of State’s “Safe at Home” Program. You may also request to have your voter registration made confidential through the superior court.
There are two ways you may be qualified to participate in the Safe at Home Program under Title 1, Division 7 of the California Government Code:

Approved applicants are assigned a special mailing address where they will receive their voting materials and important election reminders, and their voter information does not appear in any list, including a roster at a Vote Center and lists provided to approved applicants.

If you are already a member of the Safe at Home Program and need to reapply or update your voter registration, please contact program staff to learn how. You should not reregister to vote online or through any another method because you may lose your confidential voter status.
