Requests for public records pursuant to the California Public Records Act (CPRA) must reasonably describe an identifiable record or records. Providing dates, the specific election (if applicable), and other identifying information will help the Registrar of Voters (ROV) adequately search for the relevant records.
The CPRA permits up to ten calendar days from the receipt of the request to determine whether the request seeks copies of disclosable public records. Under unusual circumstances specified in Government Code Section 6253(c), the ROV may, by written notice to the requesting party, extend the time in which they may determine whether the request seeks disclosable public records. The notice of determination must be in writing setting forth the reason(s) for the extension and the date on which a determination is expected. The extension shall not exceed 14 additional calendar days.
Routine and non-CPRA requests are not subject to the response timeframes afforded the CPRA. General inquiries and comments should be directed to [email protected].
